Kwik Sew's Sewing for Toddlers by Kerstin Martensson

I used the master pattern for Size 3 Toddler pants, pattern pieces 16 & 17 to make a pair of jeans with a different fabric for the cuffs. Kerstin has directions in the book on how to make the cuffs.

What is interesting, is that in the Toddler book, the directions for making the pants, is not the easy way. (Where you put one pant leg into the other, then sew up the crotch.)

I had to go to her book Kwik Sew's Sewing for Children to get the better pant sewing directions, and a "little" bit better visual explanation of how to do the cuffs. Just a very "subtle" difference in the explanation/diagram, but it made all the world of difference for me.

Plus, since the fabric had a direction to it...pumpkins, I of course, cut the cuffs out in the WRONG direction. So, I had to redo the cuffs. Yes, I only did one the incorrect way, so I didn't have to "unsew" two cuffs....argh!

I was trying to do this of course, quickly. And I wanted to cut out a pumpkin shape to applique onto a shirt, but, just not enough time to do this......

And it looks like the pants are too big! size 3T in McCalls and 3T in Kwik Sew are a bit different.

pants for the cold......

So, yeah, I bought some denim, and duck cloth (quack) at Walmart yesterday. I have two super Walmarts about 3 miles away from where I live. One has a fabulous fabric/craft department. The other? Looks like it managed in a way that they want to get rid of the department. Always LOTS of $2 and $1 fabrics. I know Walmart may or may not have the best fabric, but you can get some nice finds, if you really dig.

So what is the marker of a good fabric anyway? I'd love to hear from you on this!

Today, I'm going to the "big" city....Beaumont. I'll probably either hit up Hobby Lobby or Superstore JoAnn's.

I was really spoiled in Victoria. A JoAnn's, a Fabric WareHouse, Walmart, Hobby Lobby and a so cool quilt store. The Quilter's Patch. People would come in bus loads to come to this store. The main owners of the store, well I used to work with one of the ladies husband out at DuPont. Always really nice to me! Here is the website:

Oh, and let's not forget Sewing Machines by B & B. Great classes! Nice machines. They did a nice job fixing a light on my Singer Featherweight, when I came and took the T-Shirt Quilt class. I also took sewing for the person, who used to sew! Lovely staff there tool!

Here is my question again: So what is the marker of a good fabric anyway? I'd love to hear from you on this!

Sewing Addiction....

So, my friend Tammy is enabling me on my new craft. Sewing. (I think I have craft ADD, by the way....I want to crochet, I want to make a wreath out of pine cones, I want to make cross bottle cap memory holders for all of my family, I want to make clothes,etc.....) Help!

Tammy is an amazing seamstress. My mom said that she caught on the quickest, when she took my mothers quilting classes.

So here is my blog to attempt to document my flubbies and wonderful things that I'm going to make!
